1836 PS$1 Name on Base, J-60 Restrike, Pollock-65, R.5, PR63 NGC. Die Alignment I. With C GOBRECHT F displayed prominently on the base of the rock and the eagle flying upward and onward in a field of twenty six stars, this is one of the original Gobrecht dollars delivered on December 31, 1836. This coin was struck with a plain edge and coin orientation. Many of the 1,000 examples of this variety were released into circulation by the Bank of the United States, while still others were distributed to Philadelphia notables directly from the Mint. In both cases, several coins were set aside as novelty items. This coin is deeply toned in charcoal shades that lighten somewhat in a few isolated areas over the obverse and reverse. The strike is typically bold, but the surfaces show a few scattered contact marks and hairlines that account for the grade. A scarce issue that is always in demand. Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
