1836 P2C Two Cents, Judd-56A, Pollock-58,
1836 P2C Two Cents, Judd-56A, Pollock-58, R.8, PR62 PCGS. Two-cent pattern with a spread-winged eagle on the obverse and date below. The reverse shows TWO CENTS in the center, surrounded by a laurel wreath. Struck in white metal with a reeded edge. The USPatterns.com website suggests that the white metal pieces are restrikes; however, we aren't certain that is correct as there is no evidence (at least on this piece) of having been struck from a shattered obverse die, as with the pieces that are known to be restrikes from the late 1850s. The surfaces are light gray overall with darker accents over the highpoints on each side. The coin is not especially lustrous, but then that wouldn't be expected from a white metal striking; however, there are no obvious contact marks on either side. One consignor has consigned a run of eleven two cent patterns to the FUN Auction, presenting the specialist with a rare opportunity. Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
