1836 P$1 Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Coin Alignment, Pollock-65, R.1, PR62 PCGS. Silver. Plain Edge. Die Alignment I (Liberty's head opposite DO). Only 400 coins were struck in early December and it appears they were retained by the mint for distribution to various officials. These have sometimes been referred to as First Originals. These pieces are easily distinguished by the orientation of Liberty's head in relation to the reverse lettering, and also by the lack of the die scratch above the eagle's wing seen on 1836-dated coins struck in late December 1836 and March 1837.
Fully defined in all areas, even Liberty's foot is completely detailed. The surfaces are hairlined, as one would expect from the grade, but the toning goes a long way toward counteracting the surface imperfections present. Each side is barely toned in the centers. The margins are surrounded by swirling, multicolored iridescence that adds a strong element of visual appeal to this important 19th century type coin.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
