1836<$2 1/2> Script 8 MS64 PCGS. McCloskey-D, Head of 1835, Breen-6143, R.2. This lustrous canary-gold near-Gem is well preserved, since both sides are clean save for a faint curved mark on the cheek. The stars, denticles, and the eagle's wings, neck, legs, and claws are all intricately struck, and striking weakness is relegated to the hair curl above the ear and the upper left quadrant of the shield. Late dies exhibit a slender, bisecting crack from star 6 across the portrait to the rim between stars 12 and 13. Three separate light cracks traverse STATES OF on the reverse. The Head of 1835 subtype (one of three different produced in 1836) is quickly identified by the proximity of star 6 to Liberty's first curl above the headband. Population: 18 in 64, 1 finer (2/06).
