1836 $2 1/2 Script 8 MS63 PCGS. Breen-6144, McCloskey-C, R.3. The Head of 1837 variety, which has a star centered above the first prominent curl. McCloskey-C is the only known variety that has a Head of 1837, and it is scarcer than either the Head of 1834 (three varieties) or the Head of 1835 (four varieties). This coin has extensive bright luster, and attractive yellow-gold color. The obverse stars and the eagle's plumage are well struck, while the curls beneath the coronet and the lowest portion of the shield have minor softness of detail. A couple of wispy abrasions are of little importance. Most Classic Quarter Eagles are in VF to XF condition, and this Select Uncirculated example may rank among the finest known for the variety. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
