1836 $2 1/2 Block 8 MS64 PCGS. Breen-6144. Head of 1837, Reverse with Olive Bud. This variety is relatively common, with a quite a number of Mint State examples known, including Choice and Gem specimens. The Head of 1837 is identified by the shape of the hair over the top left corner of the headband, sweeping back into the top curl that is below star 7. This head type is known with two different reverse dies, either with a small olive bud in the branch, or without. The type without a berry or bud in the branch is extremely rare, with only one Mint State piece known. This is a lovely Choice Mint State specimen with brilliant greenish-yellow gold that is enhanced by a trace of pale orange toning. The central obverse and reverse details are a little weak, but overall it is sharper than most. The surfaces are quite exceptional, with few marks of any consequence.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
