1836<1C> N-7, R.4--Improperly Cleaned--NCS. AU Details. XF40 EAC. Wavy-Top Head; Scratch Crosses Wreath under S1. Without a doubt, N-7 is the scarcest variety of the year, although there are no truly rare 1836 varieties. This is an extremely important late die state with a narrow rim break in the dentils over D STA. The surfaces have been cleaned and retoned, and exhibit minor nicks and scratches. The surfaces have intermingled tan, dark brown, and steel color, with hints of deep red on the reverse. Several small ticks are visible below the nose, and a short scratch is present on the reverse beneath OF. This late state was not known to Newcomb, and it is possible that the Reiver Collection example may be the finest of the die state.
Ex: Y.P. Rosemont (Thomas Elder, 5/1924), lot 2098; Floyd T.
