1835 dated artillery sword by Ames in very good condition with original scabbard and unusual US marked hilt which is period stamped “8” “Rgt & Segt I” “2”. The blade shows good eagles stamp with “N. P. Ames, Springfield, Mass”. “Springfield” and “Mass” mostly not visible. The reverse marked “United States 1835”, and is just light on “United”. The blade shows some nicks at edge, some scratches, slight erosion and pitting, but generally very good. The original scabbard shows its proper tip and throat and large button hanger. The leather body shows some cracking and seam just starting to open with normal aging and generally good to very good. The hilt is still sharp and not polished. An exceptional artillery sword with original markings and original scabbard. Est: $2,750 - $3,750
