1835<1C> Head of 1836. N-7, R.1. MS63 Brown NGC. AU50 EAC. Late Die State. Though they are technically the same variety, the difference in appearance between early and late die state examples is dramatic. The obverse has noticeable annular swelling through the stars. Die rust is visible on both sides. Attractive deep rose-brown surfaces are exceptionally clean. A review of Newcomb's text is interesting, as he actually alluded to the fact that N-7 and N-17 may be the same variety, even though he gave them different numbers. He correctly identified the obverse as the same die for both N-7 and N-17, and he also stated: "Although this [reverse] die is now rusted and worn it probably was originally die E [of N-7]."
Ex: Garry Fitzgerald (11/13/1968). Envelope Included.
