An highly lustrous specimen of this early Type with fiery gold cartwheels beneath much cleaner than average surfaces. A lovely coin, one that certainly meets the qualifications for the assigned grade. Ideal for a type set of nineteenth century gold. At this time this coin was minted, the major controversy occupying the citizens of this fair land was whether or not to allow Congress to recharter the Second Bank of the United States. The administration then in power was against it. Much of Congress was ambivalent. But when it was all said and done, the charter was allowed to lapse. And six years later, the now renamed Bank of Philadelphia, folded in a wave of panic and bankruptcy, part of it caused by its own poor lending practices to real estate and canal developers. A golden opportunity to acquire a piece of American history, that is what this delightful 1834 $5 gold piece represents!
