1834 Congressional Report and Map of Fort Sumter
Early 1834 Congressional Report and Map of Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor and pin pointing Fort Moultrie and Fort Johnson. Long known as the starting point for the Civil War, Fort Sumter was a sticking point between South Carloina and the Federal government from it's inception. In this printed report from Lewis Cass the Secretary of War in 1835, Cass is sending along with his report notes concerning the disposition of Sumter, which was still under construction and several other forts in Charleston harbor. Tipped into this booklet are two maps. One map shows the location of Sumter in the harbor with the other showing the plans for Fort Sumter itself. The maps are interesting in showing the locations of Pinkney Castle and Fort Johnson as well as noted areas that still bear their original names, such as Sullivan Island. Like the map, the report provides interesting insight into the state versus government take over of land. Very fine condition.

Shipping: Flatware (view shipping information)
