1834 Andrew Jackson, Low-1, Rulau-HT-3, DeWitt-AJACK-1832-1, Type II, Aged Head, R.7 AU50 NGC. Copper. Pointed end on first forehead curl.
This token was produced at a time that saw tremendous controversy over President Andrew Jackson's opposition to the Bank of the United States. This stance, part of Jackson's campaign platform in 1832, received enough public support to help him win re-election to the White House.
Rich chocolate-brown coloration is evenly distributed over both sides of this AU example. The smooth fields are nearly blemish-free, while a pair of diagonal pinscratches are noted on the portrait. As usual, the reverse features imperfectly struck design elements, with softness noted along the left reverse border and on some of the reverse lettering. The tokens listed as Low-1 have three distinct varieties denoted by the design of he head. This is the rarest of the three types, called the aged head. These were undoubtedly originally issued as political tokens and may have well not circulated as one cent tokens.
From The Troy Wiseman Collection, Part Two.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
