1834 $5 Plain 4 MS62 NGC. Second Head. McCloskey 2-A, Breen-6502, R.2. The small, plain 4 in the date is triple punched--a diagnostic feature of this die marriage. This is an attractive coin for the grade with frosty luster that thins to modest brightness in the fields. There are some scattered abrasions on the obverse that seem to account for the MS62 designation, but none are sizeable or individually distracting. The bluntness of strike on the obverse hair curls over Liberty's brow and the left center of the reverse eagle is a not uncommon feature for survivors of this first-year Classic Half Eagle. A relatively obtainable date that is always in demand among type collectors. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment.
