(1834-37) G$1 C. Bechtler Dollar, 28G. High MS64 NGC. K-2, R.6. A lovely near-Gem of this rare Bechtler variety. Carolina gold collectors know that K-4 is the usual 28 G. variety, and in turn, K-4 is scarcer than the common (by Bechtler standards) K-24 27 G. gold dollar. K-2 is the rarest Bechtler gold dollar, and the present piece is the finest certified example. As of (6/07), PCGS has yet to certify any examples as Mint State, while NGC has certified only two such pieces, one as MS61 and the present lot, an MS64. This fully lustrous example has a consistent sharp strike and attractive light honey-gold toning. There are no consequential marks. The present opportunity cannot be overstated.
