(1834-37) $5 C. Bechtler Five Dollar, 20 Distant MS61 NGC. K-19, High R.6. The present lot is the single finest certified example of Kagin-19, and is the only example certified in Mint State. Kagin-19 is much scarcer than Kagin-20, the usually encountered Bechtler five dollar variety. Both varieties share the same reverse die, but the obverses are readily distinguished, since the obverse of K-19 bears the legend AUGUST 1 1834. This indicates that the gold bullion value is consistent with the new tenor Classic Head Federal gold coins, introduced that year. The present high grade piece has ample orange luster, although glimpses of lilac-red are also noted. Light obverse hairlines and minor marks are consistent with the MS61 grade. Listed on page 346 of the 2007 Guide Book.
From The Stephen L. Schechter Collection of Bechtler Territorial Gold.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
