1833<H10C> V-9, LM-2, R.6. Reiver state a. MS62 NGC. The present coin is the Finest Known according to the December, 2001 John Reich Census for half dimes. A very rare die pairing, and one of the more difficult marriages for a specialist to obtain. The toning and surfaces are a delight, with deep peripheral blue and violet, while the centers are a rich russet-gold hue. The fields are prooflike, and this is an early die state of this marriage. On the reverse we note single clash marks surrounding the eagle from Liberty's head, and the area below Liberty's chin shows the usual die roughness from either die clashing or lapping which softens the reflective fields near her face and neck. Boldly struck by the dies, with sharp stars surrounding Liberty, and the curl over her ear quite strong. The present coin literally has it all, rarity, beauty, strike and eye appeal. One of the highlights of the Jules Reiver half dime collection and a memorable coin that will become a centerpiece of any advanced collection.
This die pairing was discovered by Russell J. Logan in 1980 and published in the American Numismatic Society's Coinage of the America's Conference Anthology. For many years this marriage held the coveted R.7 rating, but was recently reduced to a high R.6 as 10 examples were reported in the John Reich Journal in their half dime census published in December 2001.
Ex: B, D and B Coins. Envelope Included.
