Cleaned. The 1833 quarter eagle is a scarce entry in the lineup of rarities of this classic period denomination. The present piece is nominally Mint State 60, but has been cleaned; just the same, for both surfaces retain their mint frostiness. Optimists might even call it a full MS62. Because the quarter eagle denomination wasn't popular with depositors (who preferred $5 gold coins from the Mint), coinage was low throughout the early 1830s. The figure recorded for 1833 is 4,160 pieces.
