1833 $2 1/2 MS61 NGC. Breen-6136, BD-1, R.5. This is an impressive Mint State piece with satiny green-gold luster, sharp design features, and reflective fields. The obverse and reverse peripheries have hints of pale orange toning that enhance its eye appeal. Although less than 100 1833 quarter eagles survive, they are generally encountered in higher grade, either AU or Mint State, or else they are damaged. Fortunately, this example has no impairments other than the usual minuscule ticks that seem to gather with time. While there are only a few date and variety collectors that are assembling complete sets of this series, the demand from type collectors is such that the early quarter eagles are seldom encountered in the numismatic marketplace. Census: 7 in 61, 16 finer (6/07).

Coin Engraver: John Reich

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information\)
