1833 1/2 C PR65 Brown NGC. C-1, B-1, R.5 as a proof. The 1833 is one of the more available dates in proof format in the half cent series. Breen speculates that as many as 50 pieces may have been struck to commemorate the opening of the new mint building in January 1833. The first three die states are seen only on proofs. This is a Die State III coin that shows the die crack through the left stars all the way to star 2. However, there is no evidence of die clashing in the fields. The fields are deeply mirrored on each side with a rich overlay of blue and a brown undertone. An outstanding example of this popular and widely needed proof type coin. EAC PR60.
