1833 1/2 C PR62 Brown PCGS.
1833 1/2 C PR62 Brown PCGS.<p>B-1, C-1, the only known dies, R.5. All 1833 Classic Half Cents were struck from a single set of dies. Breen (1983) suggests that the proofs may have been struck to commemorate the opening of the new Philadelphia Mint in January 1833. At least 50 specimens are believed extant, among which is this richly toned example. Mottled brown and sandy-tan colors overlay both sides with crimson and electric-blue undertones on the reverse. The obverse reveals warmer orange-gold undertones at certain angles, as well as aesthetically pleasing brightness in the field. Uncommonly sharp striking definition further confirms this coin's status as a proof, and the only mentionable blemish is an obverse spot in the field before star 8.
