1832<H10C> MS63 NGC. V-9B, LM-7, R.2. Lovely light gold and green iridescence over the entire coin. Highly appealing for this variety, and the strike is bold on the uppermost curls of Liberty. Later die state with the obverse cracks through the first six stars, and the upper loop of the first S is filled.
Many of these early Capped Bust half dimes show "filled letters", which were caused by tiny pieces chipping out of the die within the peripheral lettering, usually at high stress points. Certain letters show this frequently, such as the S's and N's. It is evident that as more coins were struck, these letters were prone to the tiny die chips falling out, which causes the letters to appear filled.
Ex: Heritage Bullet Sale (1/95) lot 144.
From The William A.
