1832 Go.MJ Eight Reales--Counterstamped--Uncertified. XF45. Counterstamped on the obverse 5 ASSAYS FOR ONE DOLLAR PRESCOTT A.T. (Arizona Territory). An interesting Arizona Territorial piece and the only item like this we have seen. Two similar pieces are listed in Tokens of Arizona Territory by Hal Birt, Jr., but are struck on different date and mintmark Eight Reales. Curiously, this piece has the name of the city spelled correctly, while the coin in the reference book has it spelled PRESSCOT. Offered once previously in an unnamed Kagin's sale, a slip of paper accompanies the lot with the catalog description included, where the provenance was listed as, "this piece has been traced back to the editor of the Standard Catalogue of United States Coins 19th edition (to be published this year by Whitman--first published in 1935 by Wayte Raymond) and the New Netherlands Coin Co." Lightly and attractively toned, the reverse is less well defined because of the counterstamping on the obverse. Extremely rare, this is a highly desirable piece of Western numismatic history that deserves careful consideration. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
