<Our item number 135756><B>Lafayette, Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de.</B> &#40;1757-1834&#41; French military officer and aristocrat who served in the American and French revolutions. Letter Signed &#40;&#34;Lafayette&#34;&#41; with a holograph closing &#34;Receive my affectionate regards,&#34; on letterhead engraved &#34;Central Committee On Behalf of the Poles,&#34; 1p, in French, 9 x 7½ in., Paris, 10 Sept. 1831. To Monsieur Dutrone, congratulating him on his part in the successful formation of the committee, and suggesting that an auxillary committee be formed among their &#34;new fellow citizens,&#34; a reference to the Polish refugees who were entering France. Lafayette urges Dutrone to make use of these travelers &#34;to accomplish the good work of the committee of Picardy….&#34; Fine. Matted with an engraving and framed to an overall size of 18 x 23 in. With a COA from the late autograph dealer Charles Hamilton on the verso. Lafayette served as head of the French National Guard during the French Revolution and again during the Revolution of 1830.
