1831<H10C> V-6b, LM-1.2, R.1. Reiver state b.--Improperly Cleaned--NCS. Unc. Details. This coin has a small lump of solder on Liberty's temple and there is evidence of other cleaning in that area. Toned a medium gray and still attractive despite the obverse damage and cleaning lines. Early to middle die state with both S's filled at the top and the M of AMERICA as well. There is no mention of this small patch of solder on the NCS insert, and Jules probably purchased this coin early on in case this was a die state he needed. On his paper coin envelope, Jules noted "lump at curl bel(ow) E" and at first glance this appears to be a late die state, not unlike the 1855 Knob ear large cent varieties. Later die state coins have no trace of this lump, and confirm that this "lump" is a post minting addition.
Ex: Heritage (June, 1984). Envelope Included.
