1831 H10C MS66 PCGS. V-5, LM-5, R.1. Two points finer in grade than the Eliasberg specimen of the 1831 V-5 Half Dime (which was described as MS64 in the Bowers and Merena catalog of 5/1996), this shimmering Gem is a late die state with spindly cracks (as struck) in several peripheral areas. Nonetheless, virtually all features have been sharply brought up by an obviously powerful impression. A little softness of detail over the eagle's neck feathers on the reverse is mentioned solely for accuracy. Both sides are untoned save for suggestions of the lightest golden iridescence. There are no abrasions of note. PCGS reports only 23 1831 Half Dimes of all die marriages at the MS66 level, and there is just one finer (10/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment.
