1831 H10C MS64 NGC. V-6, LM-1.3, R.1. Three obvers 1831[H10C] MS64 NGC.
1831<H10C> MS64 NGC. V-6, LM-1.3, R.1. Three obverse dies were used to create the seven known varieties of the year. LM-1, 2, and 3 have a perfectly formed obverse, LM-4 and 5 have the second star recut, and LM-6 and 7 have the third star recut. Learn to recognize these features and attribution of 1831 Half Dime varieties is a simple task. This is the earliest stage of the LM-1.3 remarriage with a crack through the tops of NIT that has not yet advanced to form a retained cud over these letters. The present example has satiny silver luster with sea-green, red, and deep orange toning across the obverse, and with pale gold color along the reverse border. A couple small blemishes on the obverse prevent a higher grade.
Ex: Bowers and Merena (1/1986), lot 1748.
From The William A. Harmon Collection of United States Half Dimes.
