1831 German-Language Life of Andrew Jackson
1831 German-Language Life of General Andrew Jackson by Johann Heinrich Eaton (Reading: Johann Ritter and Co., 1831), first edition, 419 pages, half-leather binding with decorative boards and gilt lettering on spine, 12mo (4.5" x 7.25"), no dust jacket. Translated into German by G.F.J. Jager of Greenwich, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Frontispiece engraving by C.G. Childs, painted by J. Wood. Hand-colored U.S. map (approx. 9" x 11.5") mounted to recto of rear endpaper. This rare volume recounts the career of Andrew "Old Hickory " Jackson from his battles with the Creek Indians to New Orleans, before he was elected the seventh president of the United States. There is clear separation at the hinges, both front and back, some edge wear and noticeable foxing throughout. The map has a small tear (approx. 2.25") and slight offsetting, but is otherwise beautiful, being rarely found intact in this edition. Previous owner wrote in pencil on front endpaper, but it does not detract from the overall appeal of this unique volume.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
