1831 50C MS66 PCGS. O-111, R.1. A wavy die crack joins
1831<50C> MS66 PCGS. O-111, R.1. A wavy die crack joins the digits of the date and extends left and right from the date. A similar crack joins all left-side stars, and another joins stars 8 through 10. On the reverse lines 2 and 3 of stripe 1 are joined, although slightly separated at their tops, and the right side of the I in PLURIBUS is centered under the second T in STATES. This piece is extremely well struck for the issue, although die erosion draw the peripheral elements toward the rims. Its overall eye appeal, however, is off the charts, with light silver-gray centers delicately tinged with iridescent blue and lilac. There is absolutely no sign of post-strike abrasions, save for a tiny dotlike indentation (a possible planchet flaw) in the lower drapery. Possibly the finest known of this variety, as neither the Herrman prices reference nor the Overton/Parsley latest edition lists a piece finer than MS65.
