(1831-34)<G$1> C.Bechtler Dollar, 30G. MS61 NGC. K-1, R.4. A bright yellow-gold example that, like many of its kind, appears to have been struck on a slightly buckled planchet. A shallow lamination rests against the star in the obverse field and the reverse is rotated approximately 135 degrees counter-clockwise in relation to the obverse. Issued before the tenor of Federal gold coins was reduced in 1834, Kagin-1 pieces weigh approximately 29.8 grains instead of the 27.6 grains of subsequent Bechtler issues. They are one of the more obtainable of the four major varieties of gold dollars (second only to the N Reversed 28G variety), but are extremely scarce in Mint State.
