(1831-34) $2 1/2 C. Bechtler Quarter Eagle,
(1831-34) $2 1/2 C. Bechtler Quarter Eagle, Circle Center AU50 PCGS. K-8, R.7. This is rare Bechtler variety, of which only seven examples have been certified by NGC and PCGS combined. Well struck with evenly defined design elements; a sign of the quality for which Christopher Bechtler's coinage was known. When this piece was struck, Bechtler would have been between 52 and 55 years of age, with many years of experience at working with gold, approximately since the age of fifteen as an apprentice in Germany. Free of noticeable marks or wear from circulation, the coin shows only wispy hairlines and muted luster that limit the grade. Listed on page 349 of the 2008 Guide Book. Population: 3 in 50, 5 finer (6/07).
From The Stephen L.
