1831[1/2 C] Impaired Proof, Corroded, NCS (VF30 Corroded).
1831<1/2 C> Impaired Proof, Corroded, NCS (VF30 Corroded). Original. B-1, C-1, High R.6. This specimen is very similar in grade and quality to the Dr. Montgomery example, which we sold in our 1997 ANA auction; however, these are two different coins. In his Half Cent Encyclopedia, Walter Breen listed 21 different circulation strike examples along with nine proofs. We believe that these 30 citations represent about 25 different coins. For many years, the 1831 half cent was considered to be a proof-only issue. Today, however, the consensus of opinion suggests that a small quantity were produced with the intention of entering circulation. Proofs were also coined, including two different restrikes produced in the 1850s or possibly later. This example has pleasing light brown and olive coloration with a small area of deep red patina in the left obverse field. Very light verdigris is present around certain of the reverse letters, and we believe that this could easily be removed with a little patience. The surfaces are typical of a lightly circulated half cent from this era, having just the slightest imperfections. If you have been searching for an example of this issue for your collection, the present sale provides a remarkable bidding opportunity.
From The Paulsboro Collection, Part Three.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
