1830 N-9 R6+ Large Letters VF25Sharpness EF40 but there is a dull vertical nick on the nostril, a long diagonal one low on the neck, a dull scratch at NT in CENT, and a small patch of fine verdigris over star 2. Lightly cleaned and retoned glossy light to medium brown. The reverse is lighter with very faded red in the fields and protected areas and steel brown on the devices. This cent would benefit from a proper retoning on the reverse, and the rarity of this variety certainly justifies the effort required to do it right. MDS, the usual die state with a clear die crack from the bust tip to the dentils under star 1. The details at the bottom of the wreath are relatively softly struck, as always on this variety due to axial misalignment of the dies. Called net VF20 and CC#3 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF45 net VF20 and CC#4. Called "The Bus Stop Coin" after the bus stop located on Hollywood Boulevard in front of the old Bowers & Ruddy retail location. At the time of its discovery by Denis Loring in 1973 this piece was the finest of only 5 known of the variety. The current count is about 20, but most of those are in low grade.Certificate Number: Pedigree: Ex Bowers & Ruddy OTC 5/1973-Denis W. Loring 11/1974-R. E. 2. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse to honor any bid which, at his sole discretion, he feels is not submitted in good faith. The auctioneer may withdraw any lot, without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever.
3. All sales are payable in U. S. funds immediately upon receipt of invoice unless other arrangements have been made prior to the sale. Lots will not be released to buyers until paid for in full. Lots delivered in state of sale are subject to all applicable state and local taxes unless appropriate permits are on file with us.
4. Postage will be added to the invoice of all successful mail bidders.
5. A 20% buyer’s fee will be added to all invoices.
6. Please keep in mind this is not an approval sale. All sales are considered final. Sales to the floor may not be returned for any reason save authenticity. Sales to mail bidders are final unless lot proves to have been mis-attributed.
7. Mail bids, or phone bids will be accepted up through the day of the sale. Please direct email bids to friscomint@live.com. All bids will be reduced. Lots will open at one increment above second highest mail/phone bidder. Bidding will proceed as competition dictates with the lot either selling to the floor or to the mail/web bidder at one increment above the second highest bid. Please see contact information below.
8. Consignors may bid or place a reserve bid on their own coins. Principals of the auction firm may consign and may bid on coins in the sale for themselves or clients.
