1830 50C Large 0 MS64 PCGS. Large 0. O-121, R.3. Toned
1830 50C Large 0 MS64 PCGS. Large 0. O-121, R.3. Toned with a splash of light gold on the upper half of the obverse, more evenly distributed golden hues on the reverse. Strong luster in the fields, and good eye appeal for the collector. The left stars are characteristically weak, diagnostic to this die pairing. Sharp on Liberty's curls and the eagle's claws, features often lacking the definition found here. The present coin is apparently tied with one other as the third finest in the Condition Census published by Steve Herrman in his Auction & Mail Bid Prices Realized For Bust Half Dollars 1794-1839, although not currently listed in that publication, this coin is one of two MS64s graded of the variety. An impressive specimen. For pedigree tracers, this does not appear to be the Eliasberg coin, the Somerset coin nor the Overton Plate coin, each of which are close to the grade of the current example.
From The Westmoreland, Virginia Collection.
