1829 N-9 R4 Small Letters PCGS graded XF40
Very attractive glossy medium chocolate brown and steel with frosty lighter brown in protected areas. The surfaces are smooth and show only minor contact marks including a light curved scratch on the jawline and a collection of very tiny ticks over the N in CENT. M-LDS with numerous die cracks on the obverse. Graded VF35 and tied for CC#5 in the Noyes census, his photo #28293. Our grade is VF35. A very nice example of this tough die variety; the finest known grades EF45 by EAC grading standards. This is the plate coin for the variety in the Wright book on the cents of 1816-1839 and it comes with a long, distinguished provenance. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS Gold Shield label.
