1829 H10C PR63 ANACS. V-2, LM-3. This die marriage can be readily identified by the recutting on the 9 in the date, the C in the denomination, and the C in AMERICA. Writing in 1977, Walter Breen was able to confirm the existence of only 6 proof specimens of the V-2, LM-3 variety, one of which is unfortunately impaired. This is a nicely preserved example whose glassy surfaces glisten beneath mottled golden-russet iridescence. The bold, impeccable definition is even more impressive when one considers that this coin was struck on a screw press. A few wispy hairlines in the fields are visible in the fields and seem to account for the grade. A vertical abrasion in the right obverse field between Liberty's head and stars 8-11 is the most easily recognizable pedigree tracker. This is a pleasing coin for the grade and a piece that boasts unquestionable numismatic significance.

Coin Engraver: William Kneass

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information\)
