1829 H10C MS63 Prooflike NGC. V-5, LM-6.3, R.4. Th 1829[H10C] MS63 Prooflike NGC.
1829<H10C> MS63 Prooflike NGC. V-5, LM-6.3, R.4. This single obverse die was used with six different reverse dies to strike varieties LM-5, 6, 10, 15, 17, and 18. Of these, only LM-5 is common. Identification of this obverse is simple, with the top of the digit 1 in the date sharply recut above. The reverse of this scarce variety has the tops of UN joined with the right top of U slightly higher than the left top of N. This example represents the latest remarriage of the LM-6 variety, struck between LM-8 and LM-7.3. The obverse has a prominent vertical die crack from Liberty's cap down to the drapery. The reverse has several small cracks, chips, and rim breaks. Both sides have fully prooflike fields with wisps of heather and golden-brown toning. Although a few light hairlines and other abrasions are noted, the overall eye appeal is excellent. Although we don't consider this to be a proof example, it possesses many of the characteristics seen on such coins.
Ex: Lindesmith Collection (Bowers and Merena, 3/2000), lot 338.
From The William A.
