1829 50C MS65 PCGS. O-111, R.2. The right side of the 9 in the date is recut, and on the reverse, the letters STATE are recut to the left, and it is this combination of diagnostics that identifies this variety. The recutting on the reverse is clearly visible, and there is no evidence of die cracks or other die defects, except for a few light clash marks. This recutting also identifies the reverse as the same die used for O-119 of 1828. This is a lovely half dollar with prooflike fields and frosty devices on the obverse, and fully frosty and lustrous reverse surfaces. It is mostly brilliant save for light peripheral iridescence on both sides. Although it is a common variety, few Gem quality pieces exist, and this coin is certainly in the Condition Census of the top six known examples.
From our 2005 FUN Sale, lot 30216.
From The Rocky Top Collection of Bust Half Dollars.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
