1829-33: Kilkenny and Tipperary Tithe War letters collection including anonymous warning letter
manuscript, various sizes

A collection of fascinating letters sent to Rev. William Armstrong of Mealiffe, near Thurles regarding the collection of tithes in County Kilkenny. Including an unsigned, undated letter postmarked Thurles, warning Armstrong of a conspiracy to plunder his residence on 10 July. "These few lines to you to be on your care against your enemy or if you don't you will be sorry... look to this in time, before the harm is done and before the harvest is cut down... be on your guard against bad fellows, you are near trouble at present". Also letters from tithe-proctor, James Pringle, referring to local unrest, intimidation and death threats and a document describing severe intimidation of tithe process-servers at Clogheen, County Tipperary.
