This coin is equal in quality to the MS67 example in Steve Ivy's 1982 ANA Sale that the John Reich Collectors Society mentions in the 1984 book Early United States Dimes: 1796-1837. Both sides display razor sharp striking definition and mottled olive, orange, and rose tinged highlights beneath rich lavender-gray toning. A later die state, there are several small die cracks (as produced): 1. From the lower obverse rim to the base of the 9 in the date. 2. From star 1 on the obverse to Liberty's bust, and then to the flag of the 1 in the date. 3. From the upper reverse rim to the top of the first T in STATES.Pedigree concerns compel us to mention a tiny red colored spot in the lower reverse field below the olive bud. 1829 marks the second year in which the Philadelphia Mint produced Capped Bust Dimes with a beaded border and a uniform diameter. Those survivors of the 770,000-piece delivery that display a large 10C on the reverse carry a premium in all grades listed in the 2003 Guide Book.
