1829<1/2 C> C-1, B-1, R.1. Die State 2. MS62 Brown NGC. AU55 EAC. Close date, large 2; High leaf beyond S. . The Manley Plate Coin for State 2. This is the final die state recorded by Breen, and also the latest recorded by Manley. Mint records indicate that 487,000 examples were struck, and when this mintage is added to 1828, over a million half cents were struck in those two years. Given the relative rarity of the two dates today, we would anticipate that 70% of the total mintage was dated 1828 and 30% dated 1829. Although not nearly as common as 1828 C-3, the 1829 is always available in Mint State grades. The Reiver Collection specimen has mottled chestnut, steel, and iridescent toning with faint traces of red mint color around a few of the reverse devices.
