1828-S Lib Walking Half NGC MS65
Half Dollars 1928-s NGC graded Mint State 65. A coin that resonates with mint originality from every square millimeter of surface. Front to back, top to bottom this is a spectacular gem, a coin graded "square on" by NGC and one which will make just about any Walking Liberty half dollar fancier wish he could own it. The blazing luster is toned light pastel gold to blue on either side. The luster itself is roll-fresh, one could almost say glimmering. Liberty's head detail, while mildly rounded and lacking in depth is altogether above average for this date, her hand weak as is the central part of the eagle's torso and leg, and again traditional areas where weakness might happen. Coinage declined after 1920, in the aftermath of extremely high production in 1917-18 and again in 1920 during the boom years of the First World War. The country had a surfeit of silver, no halves were needed nor struck for circulation in 1922, 1924, 1925, or 1926, and only minimal numbers issued in other years prior to the stock market crash. It is only with the inflationary policies that President Franklin Roosevelt initiated in 1934 that we see an increase in production of the mesmerizing Walking Liberty half.
Superior Galleries was founded in 1929 and has been a leader in
