1828 C-1 R1 PCGS graded AU58
1828 C-1 R1. PCGS graded AU-58. Lustrous bluish steel and olive blending to lighter reddish steel brown faded down from mint color in protected areas on the obverse. Looks mint state, but there are too many extremely tiny ticks on the portrait for a mint state grade. A very thin nick-like planchet void in the field right of star 3 is the best identifying mark. E-MDS, Manley state 1.0 late or 2.0 early. The wreath spine above H still extends beyond the adjacent berry but there are some die clashmarks inside the wreath. Our grade is consistent with the slab grade. The attribution and Carvin Goodridge provenance are noted on the PCGS label (#35258).
Estimated Value $250-UP.

Provenance: Ex Broadway Stamp & Coin Shop (Chicopee Falls, Mass) 3/23/1986.
