1828<25C> Normal Reverse. B-4, R.3. MS63 PL NGC. Usual Die State. Star 1 distant from bust; Scroll begins below right side of E. Although this is not a particularly rare coin, it is remarkable for its exceptional quality. The variety is quite rare in any Mint State grade, and only two or three prooflike examples exist. In addition, perhaps eight or nine Proofs are known. Although the surfaces have a few faint hairlines, and the reverse has a few tiny nicks, this is a lovely coin with exceptional aesthetic appeal. It should prove to be a treat to the connoisseur. It is sharply struck and has fully mirrored fields surrounding all the devices. The junction between fields and devices is precisely defined. Both surfaces have light ivory color at the centers, with vivid blue and green toning near the borders. Some who have viewed this coin have questioned why it is not a proof. In fact, it meets nearly all of our qualifications for an early proof coin, although others are known to show this similar reflective mirror field surface on the obverse and reverse. Great quality regardless of the actual minting status.
Ex: Windsor Collection (Quality Sales, 11/1981), lot 979. Envelope Included.
