1827 10C PR64 NGC. JR-12, R.8 as a proof. Only 12 proofs of the date are believed to have been struck, and the Logan-McCloskey reference states that two proof specimens of this variety are known. One was the Eliasberg specimen, a Proof 66 coin sold by Heritage in the June 2001 Long Beach Signature Auction. This is not the same coin, and indeed it appears to be better struck, with notable weakness limited to stars 6 and 7. The devices and polished fields show a moderate degree of attractive champagne-rose toning, with surface marks appropriate to the near-Gem grade but not interfering with the potent eye appeal this piece displays. For pedigree purposes, a small planchet flake above the final A in AMERICA is noted (as struck).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
