General Land Office patent for Emanuel Hoostedler of Wayne County, Ohio, May 10th, 1826. Signed by President John Quincy Adams and Commissioner of General Land Office George Graham. Folds, some foxing. 9.5 x 16" John Quincy Adams (1767-1848) was the sixth president of the United States (1825-1829), a diplomat, and the son of President John Adams. Before his presidency, he served as a U.S. senator, minister to several European nations, and Secretary of State, where he was a key architect of the Monroe Doctrine. After leaving the White House, he served in the U.S. House of Representatives for nearly two decades, becoming a leading opponent of slavery. In 1826, while president, Adams delivered a famous eulogy for both Thomas Jefferson and his father, John Adams, who had died on July 4, 1826-the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
