October 14, 1825-Dated Manuscript Letter Signed, “Richard Rush” as Secretary of the Treasury, 3 pages, legal folio, 8” x 12.5”, at “Treasury Department,” at Washington, Fine. Being the text of a Handwritten Newspaper Notice that the United States Government is seeking to borrow a sum of up to $12,000,000 setting forth procedures for making such loans, etc. Internal central tear with a .5” x 1.5” mouse chew hole located along the left side center folds and at the left edge, affecting and missing some words, having two separate sheet page leaves. Rare U.S. Treasury related content.
Richard Rush (August 29, 1780 – July 30, 1859) was United States Attorney General under James Madison and United States Secretary of the Treasury under John Quincy Adams as well as John Quincy Adams running mate when he ran for re-election on the National Republican ticket in 1828. Rush also served as United States minister to England and France at various times.
