1825 President John Quincy Adams Vellum Land Grant
JOHN QUINCY ADAMS (1767-1848). 6th President of the United States (1825-1829); Negotiated with the United Kingdom over America's northern border with Canada; with Spain the annexation of Florida; one of the earliest Anti-Slavery Leaders; authored the “Monroe Doctrine” thus one of the greatest Diplomats and Secretaries of State in American history.
May 12, 1825-Dated, Partly-Printed Document Signed, “J.Q. Adams” as President, on a Vellum Land Grant, 1 page, Very Fine. This pleasing display piece measures 9.5” x 15.5” and records the grant of a plot of land in Shawneetown, IL to Peter Hancock of the same town. The manuscript portions of this document are complete, with an exceptional Adams’ signature, which is bold. Cosigned by Geo. Graham as Commissioner of the General Land Office. The vellum is lightly toned overall; the original paper and wax seal is intact, with a horizontal crack running though its middle and there is some darker toning in the upper fold intersection, affecting none of the text.
