1825/2<25C> AU55 NGC. B-1, R.5. The B-1 variety is the rarest of the three 1825 die marriages, and it is extremely difficult to locate in higher grades. This example is a tad below the Reiver coin for overall quality. In his revision of Browning, Walter Breen recorded two die states, either perfect or with die crumbling inside the digit 5. Considering the details of the overdate, it is difficult to distinguish between these overdate features and actual die crumbling. This example appears to have both. The surfaces have a blend of pewter, pale gold, and grayish-lilac color. The surfaces appear to be reasonably problem-free, with evidence of underlying luster.
