1825<10C> MS66 PCGS. JR-5, R.5. This die pairing is the rarest of the five for the issue, and this phenomenal example is by far the finest that we have ever had the privilege to offer. The U in PLURIBUS is below the final S in STATES. The A in STATES is not recut, and its right serif is higher than the base of the second T. ERI are joined at their bases. On the obverse, star 7 points to the top of the forecurl.
This delectable example is perhaps tied for the finest known of this rare variety, as the NGC population data shows a JR-5 graded MS66, or perhaps this is the same piece "crossed over" to PCGS. The present example boasts light, lovely olive-gold and russet coloration on both sides. Faint prooflikeness radiates from beneath the translucent luster. The peripheral strike is bold, but some light weakness is noted on the E of LIBERTY on the obverse and on the shield lines on the reverse. Early dime specialists will recognize this piece for the significant opportunity that it represents, and will bid accordingly.
