1824 50C MS64 PCGS. O-115, R.2. Although it is really quite small, a triangular die chip in the left reverse field is visible on all known examples of this die marriage, providing an instant attribution characteristic. The obverse of this near-Gem specimen has natural gray-gold color with hints of iridescent toning. The reverse is much brighter, with a nice blend of ivory-silver color and peripheral gold toning. A faint hairline in the upper reverse field prevents a higher grade. The drapery clasp and a few hair curls on the obverse are the primary points of weakness in the strike, as usual for these pieces.
Ex: Douglas L.
